Review of Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole And A HalfThis is a book I wrote. Because I wrote it, I had to figure out what to put on the back cover to explain what it is. So I decided to just make a list of things that are in the book:. The topics deal with depression, finding a letter that her younger self had written to her future self, her lack of motivation, childhood mischief, her two dogs, and so much more. This collection is so hilarious that I was literally laughing out loud, while my boyfriend looked at me as though I were crazy books rarely make me laugh.

Thank you! Brosh is a good example of how new literary forms are evolving. However, as many readers know, web writing often does not translate well to a book and vice versa. Brosh makes a solid first attempt to bridge this literary gap. That said, holding a book may leave some with a yearning for more cohesion. It does feel choppy in places, but the wit, hilarity and poignancy of the subject matter trump structural concerns.

When Brosh announced she had received a book deal, in , she pointed out on her blog that it would take a while for the as-yet-unwritten text to make it to the shelves.

I read it almost immediately, but between having ALL sorts of feelings about it and the move, I never put up a review. But I digress.
